Where Material Meets Motion: The Art of Flow in Footwear

Craftsmanship starts with materials. At Baudoin & Lange, every shoe starts with an uncompromising pursuit of quality - from the hand-selected hides to the expert techniques that shape them. The right material doesn’t just enhance a shoe; it defines its character, its comfort, and its elegance.Suede has long been prized for its softness and versatility. Originally derived from the French term gants de Suède - “gloves from Sweden” - it was first associated with the fine, supple leather used in luxury gloves. Over time, suede became a symbol of refinement, favoured in high-end footwear for its velvety texture and ability to mould effortlessly to the foot.

Asteria suede continues this tradition. Sourced from top-grain Mediterranean lambs, it is developed in collaboration with a family-run tannery in Southern Italy, where techniques passed down through generations ensure an unparalleled finish. The tanning process avoids harsh chemicals, instead using natural ingredients and a slow drying method to preserve the leather’s integrity. The result is a suede that is exceptionally soft, breathable, and designed to age beautifully.Asteria suede is more than a material - it’s a mark of craftsmanship, comfort, and understated luxury. Its unmatched softness, breathability and ability to shape to the foot make it the foundation of our signature loafers. With every step, it refines itself to you, embodying the effortless elegance that defines Baudoin & Lange.
